Unveiling Epic Weapon Upgrades! Starship Scramble Devlog#5



Hey there, hope you enjoy this arsenal update!

After inviting my friends over for a playtest, I noticed that they had an issue with killing enemies in the mid game. Therefore, I introduced the new mechanic to improve the overall power of your starship, Stat Selection. You always have this option after finishing a wave and stats value improves over the wave as well. You can select one out of four options.

Next, I update the damage scaling for percentage based approach to a hybrid approach. Basically, by if you select or purchase a crew with physical power of 2, all physical weapons gain a proportion of 2 as bonus damage and the base value is remained. This is a game-changing update as it enables me to balance the games and create a new variety of weapons for early game or late game. 

In this patch, I have spent time making new weapons from my Discord suggestion, and I bet everyone's favorite is this WHIP, the punisher. For each weapon, I always try to create different gimmicks and this one is no exception. The whip guarantees a critical strike at the tail of the attack. But that would be boring for such a cool weapon. Not gonna lie, I spent half a day making the animation, and more on research. Therefore, I introduced the mechanic to boost the drone's attack speed to the whip. Now it is the true terror for both friends and foes!!!

 

Another one also deserves a spotlight in this update is Iron Fist. Iron Fist deals little damage but it knock enemies away, like really far away. Not only that, after disengaging the combat, the weapon will charge up and unleash a mighty blow to the enemies. This charging can go to infinity and get stronger with each second, so perhaps, make let go and make some moment. 

Both of the new weapons have sparked some more ideas for me on how to build a better weapon and I took a step back to rework a couple of them. Ammo weapons, such as twin shooter, noxious blaster, Rumble,  Ion Cannon and more have received the charging out of combat similar to Iron Fist. Twin shooters unleash a rapid succession of projectiles, while Rumble will call down the lightning and smites the enemies down. Precision weapons also got an update. Previously all they did was get a chance to deal bonus damage. In this patch, they either have a crit condition or higher crit attack in general and an unique effect on crit. For example, Lance cannon critical strike becomes a small aoe that can deal huge damage. Hydra, Culling, Gatling, Falcon Flare all received this token of love. Let us continue, I have made significant changes to tune ups to adapt with the new variety of weapons. There is no universal rule on how to use a tune up, a critical strike effect isn’t necessary only playable on precision weapons, with correct build anything can crit thus creating an interesting game play and decision making.


Hey, stop abusing the scopes!!! I know I can’t blame you for using this greatest invention of mankind. But well, at least by doing so you won’t have enough damage to kill enemies now. By the way, if you don’t know, range increases affect the hit box size of melee weapons, resulting in gigantic slashes.  

There are other important updates as well, Cast and Special now produce heat instead of consuming the heat. For these changes, I aim to reduce the amount of mining and careful weapon management.
